It doesn’t also mean that you are good at something; you already have the confidence in yourself. I’ve noticed and have seen people who have great talents but are shy type. But there are also people who are shy but once they step on stage, it’s like they own it. But how can you have that confidence in you? There are actually many ways to develop that confidence in you.

One, assess and evaluate yourself and know your strengths and weaknesses. Most of the time, we become unconfident about ourselves is because we don’t even know what are our strengths and weaknesses, we don’t even know what we are good at. Knowing ourselves better will help us develop that confidence because we would be able to defend ourselves in case we hear the criticism of others. Second, after finding out our strengths, develop them. Try to do something where you can develop those strengths. Like for example if you have an interest in playing music instruments, give time to learn them. You can learn how to play guitar, violin, drums, bass guitar, and etc. if you are talented; many people will appreciate you and would admire your skills. But don’t disregard that there will be people who will try to pull you down by criticizing you and saying negative things against you. But don’t let them affect you. If you know what you are capable of, the opinion of others doesn’t matter especially if they are negative. But you can also make it as motivation by enhancing your skills and proving them wrong.

Third, stay close to the people who love and care for you like your close friends and family, because they are the people who believe in you and what you can do and become. They will be there to support you, inspire you, motivate you, and believe in you. With these types of people around you, I’m sure that you will have that confidence in you. Lastly, this is for me the most important of all – believe in yourself! How can you expect other people to believe in your abilities if you don’t believe in yourself either? Believing in yourself opens up opportunities, opinions of others, and also desire to do better.

In my observation, problem with low self esteem starts with our insecurities. So, if there is something that you need to do to increase your self esteem, you need to recognize and work on your insecurities. How often do you look at yourself in the mirror? How much do you know yourself? What are your strengths and weaknesses? When you look at yourself in the mirror what do you see? Do you see and successful person of a failure? Increasing self esteem in my opinion would start on how you look at yourself. If there is one person who should know your potentials it should be you and not others. Knowing yourself better would let you know the things that you need to work for improvement and things that you need to continue. Nobody can tell you who you are and what you will become, it’s you who is responsible with what you want to be in the future. Once in a while, try to take time to sit down for at least few minutes and think of things about yourself like your achievements, your plans, about your work, your friends, how other appreciates you as a person, and son on…

But whatever it is that you see in yourself, you need to accept it. Loving and accepting yourself first would be a great step in increasing self esteem. Everything should start in you. If you know who you are, what you can do for others, and your abilities and talents, you would simply know your worth.

Seventh, think of things that you can do and not the things you can’t do. Last but not the least, be the best on what you do. If you are the best on what you do, people will admire you more and would appreciate you more.

Thinking positive means to do the right things, if you think positively, it will determine your personality and it will also boost your self-confidence. In addition, when you do something, never think of negative results; always think of the positive outcome. In case you fail with your plans, don’t lose hope, always think that things happen for a reason and that you can do better and improve the next time. Positive thinking makes you hopeful of the things that you want to achieve in the future. But it’s not that easy to always have a positive thinking especially if you are surrounded with negative people. It takes practice to stay focus with positive thinking.
